A woman and four children were rescued after fireworks were pushed through their letterbox in Tamworth.
The family were in a bedroom of the house on Wandsbeck, Belgrave, when yobs targeted their home.
A 16-year-old was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but fire chiefs say it could have been much worse.
Fire spokesman Tim Hyde said: “We are extremely shocked and angered
by this incident that put the lives of five people at serious risk.
“We will be working with the police and other partners to bring those
responsible to justice and assisting the authorities to ensure that
those who deliberately put others’ lives at risk receive the appropriate
punishment.
“We would ask everyone in our communities to reflect on whether
someone they know was involved in this selfish and life threatening
activity and if so to do the right thing by reporting those responsible
to the police.”
Insp Mark Smith, Tamworth Local Policing Team, said: “We’re working
closely with the fire and rescue service to fully investigate this crime
and would urge anyone with information to contact us immediately.”
