Residents at North Staffordshire YMCA are taking part in a record-breaking basketball event.

The centre on Harding Road, Stoke-on-Trent, is joining in the World Challenge 2012, which aims to set a new record by having five million people shoot basketballs worldwide.

Seventy-one YMCAs in England will join 74 countries in an attempt to shoot the largest number of basketball hoops in one day.

Stoke-on-Trent residents will take to the courts to celebrate the work of YMCA by attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

It will be held between 11am and 2pm tomorrow (October 13).

The global event will also celebrate the work of the YMCA by staging sports contests, music concerts, festivals, photo exhibitions and other activities.
