Don't Stop Believing in the Staffs Drama Society

The drama society perform their much-anticipated finale
Staffordshire University's drama society performed a Musicals Through the Ages variety show at the Stoke campus.

On Sunday December 12, students of the society arranged a series of songs taken from various musicals. The event took place at the Leek Road Venue (LRV) at 7.30pm.

The evening took the audience on a journey through the ages, showcasing choreographed performances from musicals including Hairspray, Chicago and West Side Story.

The uplifted audience clapped along to the finale of 'Don't Stop Believing'.

The society is run by 19-year-old second-year drama student and chairman Liam Waterhouse.

He said: “It went brilliantly. I couldn't have asked for more from everyone. We have done the drama society proud!”

Second-year media production student Michelle Dawe, 20, took part in the show and said: “This year's drama society was amazing. Compared to my first year show it was better by a million miles.”

A committee of seven students run the society which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm. Students from all courses and backgrounds participate.

Matthew Thompson, 18, a film production student said: “I really enjoyed the variety of performances. It was good to see a lot of students getting involved, both in the performance and in the technical side.

Because I was involved in drama before university, I had an interest to begin with. After seeing the show, I may get involved in the next semester.”

This was the first year in which the drama society was divided into two areas.

The other half staged the play A Victim of His Own Success on Wednesday December 8. It was written and directed by Staffordshire University student Benjamin Broomfield.

The society enables students on both Stoke campus and Stafford campus to take part in a variety of performing arts activities.
