KATY Shotter, the winner of T4's 2006 urban music competition Chancers, will perform at the prestigious event in Birmingham this Sunday.

Mathew Knowles gave Katy a Sony recording contract and the opportunity to support Beyoncé on her Spain and UK tour in 2007. She was asked to continue as her support act the following year in the USA and Canada.

The singer-songwriter worked and performed with the likes of Jools Holland, John Legend and Jack Knight.

She is one of the UK's current rising musical talents signed to the Jack Knight Songwriters Academy. Jack has written, recorded and produced successful records for artists including Usher and Christina Aguilera.

On performing at the grand event, Katy said: “I am so excited! I am in rehearsals with my incredible live band now, so we cannot wait. We have toured a lot this year; in Cannes, St Tropez, Austria and London, and this is our last gig of 2010, so we are going to have a lot of fun.

I have always wanted to do music full time, and now I am, I feel very, very grateful. However, I am still on a long journey, so I still wake up like an excited kid every morning wondering what the day will bring!”

This year's Sports Personality of the Year awards will be held on Sunday December 19, at Birmingham's LG Arena. Ten sportsmen and women from nine sports will compete for the prestigious title which is expected to be the biggest in the shows history.

Katy went to the USA as a contestant on the show Chancers which she went on to win. She said: “It was incredible. The time away was a month of many emotions, and something I will treasure for the rest of my life.

It thickened my skin, and gave me a great insight into the world of show business.”

Katy recently attended de Stafford school in Caterham to lead a songwriting forum. Amit Chadda, Head of Music and Media, and life-long friend, said: “She did an amazing job, the feedback from the students after the session was entirely complimentary.
