#1 Jack Garratt - The Love You're Given

Synesthesiac EP, released on 13/04/15, Island Records

Upcoming sensation Jack Garratt has set the standard and the style for truly inspirational UK music in 2015.

You instantly share concern and apprehension with the painful, haunting looped vocals on The Love You’re Given.

Layered beautifully with soft piano chords, Garratt's chilling echo and a delicate drum beat, the opening lulls you helplessly.

Following the second drop you can empathise with the effortless compassion heard in the pain which peaks halfway with ‘I promise, if you're gonna’ lock me out’ at which point you’re willingly encompassed by the subtle yet welcomingly overpowering bass and twinkling, arpeggiated notes.

He pleads throughout, trying to convince his stubborn rejector with no prevail.

The final buildup of shakers, repeated struggling echoes and an increase in volume send you into an unforgettable trance in limbo – leaving you stunned – completely separate from the world yet wonderfully content.

Garratt’s wide-ranging, fearless style is perfectly apt for the current club scene as he develops on the foundations of artists such as 2013 Mercury Music Prize winner James Blake and Jamie Woon.

See his performance of this delectable track at the BBC Introducing stage (below) at SXSW 2015 in Austin, Texas and look forward to a huge talent in the making.
