What
a success for Stoke-on-Trent!
Some
of the finest musicians across the city joined together to create an
inspired tribute to the much loved Joe
Gilligan.
The
Rebel Bear Band did
Stoke proud with the Christmas single 'Unite' released last month.
The
life-changing Joe Gilligan Trust supports young adults who are
undergoing treatment or receiving care for Cancer.
Passionate
Joe was an avid drummer so the local charity also does all it can to
support young musicians coming through.
The
dedicated head of local music at 6
Towns Radio,
Lee Barber, worked with bands Neon Rouge and 3's A Riot to write
a fitting dedication.
Neon
Rouge guitarist Jonathan Finney was overjoyed to be working on the
project: “Kieran Oakes (Neon Rouge vocalist) and myself were asked
by Lee Barber of Radical's Rising (6 Towns Radio show) to participate
in the single, and of course we couldn't turn the Barbs down!
“We
had already heard of the great things the Joe Gilligan Trust had
achieved so in order to help out with the cause and generate some
extra money we were more than happy to partake.”
The
collective also includes Aaron Mobberley, Vellocet, The Rat Race,
Nuclear Safari, In The Cards, Moscow and The Choir of St.
Joseph's College.
Finney
added: “The songwriting process was literally circled
with Christmas traditions and a need to ‘unite’ for both
Christmas and the Joe Gilligan Trust.”
While
Finney wrote the parts for the keyboard and guitar, Oakes and
Joe Tomasso of 3's A Riot contributed to the lyrical side of 'Unite'.
“The
song itself definitely achieved this in the sense that not only did
the local music scene come together in order to create such a snazzy
tune but also the aims of Lee Barber were achieved in raising a
significant amount of money for an amazing cause.
“The
Universal Thrift Club Recording Studios (UTC) in
Longton did an absolutely amazing job in producing the track and
making the track what it is. And - Lee Barber is a genius,” added
Finney gratefully.
The
guitarist is more than welcoming to the idea of future projects with
the group and encourages everyone to support the worthy trust.
