Six Stoke-on-Trent libraries will provide support for No Smoking Day 2012.
Longton Library will aid smokers on Tuesday (March 13) while five more libraries will receive similar treatment during March.
Stop Smoking Advisors will be on hand to offer advice to stop smoking for good.
The No Smoking Day charity encourages millions of people to stop smoking on Wednesday (March 14).
Richard Marsland is the Health Information Development
Officer for the library service in Stoke-on-Trent. He said: "We see reducing the number of smokers in
Stoke-on-Trent as one of the major priorities for improving the health
of the population."
"The advisors will be available to
talk to any customers, give out leaflets, and refer anyone who is
interested into smoking cessation services.
"The leaflets will remain
prominently displayed in the Health Zones for the
rest of the month."
The scheme is in partnership with the Health Improvement Team of the NHS.
"We hope that the library service can help to raise
awareness of the services available to support anyone
who wishes to quit smoking.
"Each library in
Stoke-on-Trent has a dedicated Health Zone which houses books and
leaflets on a wide range of medical conditions.
"We also offer free
internet access and signposting to useful websites. Each month
through the Health Zones we promote a health campaign."
The event begins at 10am and will end at 1pm.
